The Sanctuary | Alba Thermal Springs & Spa

Accessible Stay at Alba Thermal Springs & Spa: Sanctuary Review

If you’ve been thinking about a reset, this is your sign.

I recently stayed at The Sanctuary at Alba Thermal Springs & Spa and honestly… it felt like a full exhale.

I first visited when Alba opened back in 2023, so getting to come back and experience the full stay this time? Next level!

The stay

The Sanctuary rooms are designed for proper switch-off mode. Soft, calming interiors, a super comfy king or twin setup, and all the little touches that make the space feel genuinely considered.

I stayed in one of the premium rooms (there are two in this category, with one accessible option available), and it immediately felt relaxing without trying too hard. Think warm lighting, beautiful finishes, Aesop amenities, and a complimentary minibar stocked with local treats and wine.

Accessibility-wise, the room has been thoughtfully designed. The bathroom is spacious and easy to move through, with a drop-down shower seat and grab rails already in place. The toiletries weren’t initially within reach for me, but I was able to move them to a more convenient spot.

One thing worth knowing before you go: the beds are quite high. I managed fine, but it’s definitely something to consider depending on your transfer needs. Alba can provide an in-room hoist on request, which is a huge plus and not something many luxury stays offer.

The bathing experience

This is where the stay really becomes an experience.

Guests staying at The Sanctuary receive all-day access to the hot springs, plus access to a private pool session, and honestly this was one of the highlights for me.

One of the private pools is accessible with a hoist, and the lifeguards assist with setup and operation, which made the whole experience feel easy and stress-free. The staff here were genuinely supportive and understanding around access needs.

After the 45-minute private pool session, you can continue exploring the rest of the springs at your own pace. There are four pools across the property with hoist access available - you simply let staff know which pool you’d like access to.

I also used one of the pools with a rail and shallow steps. It’s not fully accessible, but if you can manage a couple of steps like me, it’s another workable option worth knowing about.

What I really appreciated was how unhurried everything felt. You’re not rushing between spaces or trying to figure out complicated access routes.

Accessibility

This is where Alba really stands out, because accessibility feels built into the experience from the beginning, not added on later.

Some of the standout features include:

  • Step-free pathways across the property

  • Accessible parking close to the entrance

  • Wheelchairs available to borrow from reception

  • Accessible changerooms and toilets

  • Multiple pools with hoist access

  • Accessible private pool option

  • Companion Card accepted for complimentary carer entry

Getting around the property felt easy and well considered throughout my stay, which makes such a difference when the whole point is to relax.

Food & extras

Breakfast at Thyme is included and honestly, it was one of the best breakfasts I’ve had in a long time.

The best part? You can dine in your robe!

It sounds small, but being able to move between the pools, your room, and breakfast without constantly changing makes the whole experience feel seamless.

Thyme is also open for lunch and dinner, so you can really settle into the slower pace of the stay.

Final thoughts

This isn’t just a place you visit, it’s a place you properly experience.

Between the calming design, thoughtful accessibility, supportive staff, and flexibility to move at your own pace, The Sanctuary at Alba Thermal Springs & Spa delivers on what so many wellness stays promise but don’t always achieve.

If you’ve been looking for an accessible luxury stay where you can genuinely unwind without overthinking logistics, this is absolutely one to add to your list.

Invited stay. All access feedback is based on my honest personal experience.
