I recently checked out Ging Thai – a vibrant Thai spot at Crown Melbourne serving up bold flavours and front row Yarra views!
If you’re entering from inside the Crown complex, you’re all good – step-free access makes for a smooth arrival. But heads up: the riverfront entrance has stairs, so it’s best to approach from the Crown side if you’re using a mobility aid.
Ging Thai ticks a lot of boxes when it comes to layout. Inside is fully step-free with a gradual ramp leading out to the terrace, making alfresco dining easy to access with mobility aids. Outside, it’s all standard height tables and chairs with backrests (big yes from me!), and inside offers a few different zones so you can choose what feels best. I found the space is easy to navigate and comfortable to settle into, with enough space tableside for aids or prams.
Here’s where it gets a little tricky: the restaurant’s own toilets are upstairs on a mezzanine and only accessed via stairs. If you’re after an accessible toilet, you’ll need to head back into the main Crown complex. Just exit the restaurant, turn left, go all the way down to the lifts, take them down one level, and follow the signage. The accessible toilet is spacious, has grab rails, and even a push-to-open button – but it’s a bit of a detour, so worth planning ahead.
Crown’s multi-level carpark offers plenty of accessible bays, though it’s worth noting that it can be a bit of a walk through the complex to reach the riverfront restaurants. Allow a little extra time to navigate through.
The food? Delicious! Fresh, authentic Thai dishes full of flavour. The service was friendly, and the riverfront setting made for a really relaxing lunch. Definitely a spot to add to your list if you love Thai food and want a chill place to dine in the city.
