The Waterside Hotel. Melbourne CBD
508 Flinders Street,
Melbourne VIC 3000
7 level pub with dining, rooftop terraces and sweeping city views
Open 7 days 11:30am - late
I visited the newly renovated @thewatersidehotel shortly after it reopened last year. It’s a huge, multi-level venue, so knowing what to expect from an accessibility point of view before you go really helps.
Located on the corner of Flinders Street and King Street, with step-free entry via King Street and an automated door for smooth, independent access.
The ground floor houses the public bar and beer garden (although it feels more like a courtyard). There’s sport on big screens, pub classics on the menu, and a lively atmosphere. Seating is mostly high tables and stools, with one small corner offering lower tables and more of a bistro feel. The courtyard itself doesn’t have standard-height tables, which limits options for seating. There’s a few towards the front of the pub but they were popular and I had to wait for one to free up.
Past/Port Dining is on level 2 upstairs via lift and feels much more like a restaurant. Standard-height tables throughout and a calmer atmosphere make this level a solid option if you’re heading in for a proper meal.
The rooftop terrace on level 3 is best for drinks and light bites. It has indoor space, a wrap-around terrace, city views and a mix of seating options, making it the most flexible level from an access point of view.
Accessible toilets are on the rooftop level 3 and the basement (not on the ground floor), so it’s worth planning ahead. Accessible parking is available on Flinders Lane behind the venue.
A big, impressive renovation across a huge venue. Some areas work better than others, but there are good accessible options, especially upstairs. My pick? The rooftop terrace for a relaxed drink in the sun ☀️
