Arthur’s Milkbar. Kew
Accessible Cafe Review

Kew cafe in a former milk bar serving coffee, breakfast & lunch daily
As a lifelong Doggies supporter, I’ve been meaning to visit Arthur’s Milkbar in Kew for ages. Owned by none other than Marcus Bontempelli, or as I know him, the Bont, this one has been high on my list.
Tucked away in the backstreets of Kew, Arthur’s is set inside an old corner milk bar. It still has plenty of its original character, with exposed brick, a fresh fit-out, a little Canadian influence and most importantly, top coffee.
Entry + Access
There’s a small threshold ramp at the front entrance, which I was able to navigate on my mobility scooter. Once inside, the cafe is level throughout.
There’s also outdoor seating along the footpath, with plenty of space around some of the tables.
Space + Seating
Inside there’s a mix of standard-height tables, booth seating and chairs with backrests.
Tables are fairly close together in some areas, although there are a few roomier spots. If you know you’ll need some extra space for a wheelchair or mobility aid, I’d recommend booking ahead and letting the team know.
The pathway towards the accessible toilet was also slightly blocked by chairs when I visited, but these were easily moved.
Accessible Toilet
There’s a spacious accessible toilet towards the back of the cafe with grab rails and RHS transfer.
One thing I really appreciated was that when I contacted Arthur’s ahead of my visit, the team actually knew it was a RHS transfer toilet. It might seem like a small detail, but it’s really helpful information when planning a visit.
Parking
Parking is probably the trickiest part. Arthur’s is tucked into a residential street in Kew, so street parking in the surrounding area is your best bet. I’d allow a little extra time if you need to park close by.
Food + Coffee
Arthur’s serves up classic Melbourne cafe favourites with a bit of Canadian influence thrown in.
I went for the avocado on toast, alongside a very good coffee. You’ll also find some old school milk bar touches on the menu, including scones with jam and whipped cream.
The Verdict
Arthur’s is a gorgeous neighbourhood cafe with genuine old school milk bar vibes, great coffee and some thoughtful access features.
Space can be a little tight in parts, but being able to book ahead and request a roomier table makes planning easier.
And yes, as a Doggies supporter, I was probably always going to be a fan ❤️🤍💙
