Lux Foundry. Brunswick
Accessible Cafe Review
21 Hope Street,
Brunswick VIC 3056
Warehouse cafe in Heritage Listed Building
Brunswick has no shortage of great cafés, and I’ve found another accessible one to add to the list.
Tucked away in the backstreets of Brunswick, just off Sydney Road, Lux Foundry is a gorgeous warehouse-style café set inside a heritage-listed building. Think exposed brick, high ceilings, plenty of space and a huge outdoor courtyard.
If you’re wondering whether Lux Foundry is wheelchair accessible, here’s what I found when I visited with my mobility scooter.
Getting in
Lux Foundry is located on Hope Street, just over the railway line from Sydney Road.
There are three easy step-free entrances into the venue, giving you a few different options depending on where you’re coming from.
Space + Seating
The outdoor area is actually bigger than the indoor space, with a huge front courtyard and plenty of room to move around. It would be a great option in warmer weather, particularly if you’re visiting with a mobility aid, pram, kids or a dog.
Inside, the exposed brick and high ceilings give it that classic Brunswick warehouse feel. There’s ample space to move around, with a large communal table as well as standard-height tables and chairs with backrests.
I found it easy to navigate the space with my mobility scooter.
Accessible Toilet
There’s an accessible toilet with grab rails, a baby change table and a sliding door - something I’m always partial to because I find them much easier to manage independently.
Accessible Parking
There’s a small car park on Hope Street with two accessible parking spots, just over the train tracks and a short distance from Lux Foundry.
One thing to keep in mind is that this car park can get busy. I’ve found it quite full when visiting the area, so I wouldn’t necessarily rely on a space being available.
The Verdict
Lux Foundry was a really easy café for me to navigate. There’s plenty of space, easy step-free access and a good mix of seating, plus that huge courtyard is a big bonus when Melbourne gives us some sunshine.
Another great Brunswick find, and definitely one I’d happily come back to! ☕️
