Hickens Hotel. Melbourne CBD
127 Russell Street,
Melbourne VIC 3000
Multi level pub with rooftop
Open 7 days 11am - late
Ground floor 11am | All other levels 12pm
@hickenshotel nails that balance of classic Melbourne pub feels with a fresh, buzzing rooftop energy. Set over four levels, there’s something here for everyone, and with a lift servicing the main spaces, accessibility is nearly spot on for an older building, which is a win.
Located on the corner of Russell and Little Collins Streets, you’ll find the step free entrance on the Little Collins Street side.
• Ground floor: the classic front bar with a smaller tucked-away dining area
• Level one: a dining room with a more traditional setup for meals
• Level two: Abe’s Athletic Hall is a sports bar with multi-screens showing different games. You’ll also find a photo booth here
• Rooftop: the showstopper! An open-air rooftop in the middle of the city with a big central bar, mix of high and standard tables, and giant screens playing the footy. There’s one section down a few stairs I couldn’t reach, but the main area is completely step free.
The only space I couldn’t access was the Carlton Lounge on the lower ground floor, but with so many other options, it didn’t feel like a loss.
Accessibility notes
• Accessible toilet available on level two so plan ahead depending on where you’re hanging out.
• Russell Street is excellent for accessible parking, with four spots right out the front and another just before Bourke Street on the same side.
• Plenty of space throughout, with a good mix of table heights.
Whether you’re after dinner, drinks, or just a rooftop hangout with a footy replay, Hickens Hotel is a fun, vibrant city spot that delivers and gets access mostly right.
