Tucked just off the bustle of Camberwell Junction @rumourhasitcv is an accessible, light-filled cafe that gets it right from the moment you enter!
Located on Monteath Avenue, you’re greeted by automated doors (my favourite for independence!) that open into a spacious, airy layout.
The cafe spans two levels, but accessibility hasn’t been forgotten - a wide, gradual ramp connects both areas seamlessly. It’s part of the design, not an afterthought, which makes it easy to explore the whole space and find a spot that suits you. There’s a mix of standard and high tables, with plenty of room for mobility aids or prams. My pick? The round table by the window for that perfect morning light. And on a sunny day, those outdoor tables look like the perfect place for a coffee.
The accessible toilet is back up the ramp near the kitchen. It’s large and includes a baby change table. It does take up a bit of space, so if I’m being picky, I’d go for a drop-down version instead.
Accessible parking is available in the Camberwell Place carpark (enter via Camberwell Road or Harold Street). There’s a handy shortcut through Porter Street that takes you straight to Monteath Avenue. You’ll also find standard street parking on both Camberwell Road and Monteath Avenue.
It’s accessible, roomy, and calm, but still close enough to pop into the shops afterwards. A thoughtfully designed space that makes everyone feel welcome and one I’ll definitely be back to
